I remember at the age of 11 desperately wanting to stay late one night to watch the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. One of the guests was Buddy Rich, one of the greatest drummers around. I laid on the carpet with my eye's wide open watching Buddy rip around his Slingerland white marine pearl kit. I knew from that moment I was going to play the drums. My first "kit" was to build my own drum kits. Nothing like using cardboard boxes I'd pick up from the dumpster of the local supermarket. After a while they'd get pretty worn, so I'd do my impersonation of John Bonham or Ringo and bash the tar out of them. Then I'd go back to the supermarket and start again.
